Thank You BEST!!  We were over the top excited to walk in on January 2nd and find our new Chromebook cart waiting.   This new technology is a wonderful addition to are classroom and we are learning new skills every day!  Thank you for making this happen!

Happy New Year!!  Students kicked off the New Year after returning from winter break by choosing just one word to represent their resolutions for the year ahead.  Google Drawing was used to turn resolutions into inspiring digital posters.

Who Doesn't Love to Dunk an Oreo???

We had sooooooo much fun today!  Students discussed topics they have strong opinions about while dunking Oreos in milk.  We are beginning a unit on Opinion Writing and learned about the organization of an opinion essay today.  Opinion introduced, Reasons and Examples to provide support, and Opinion reworded to wrap up.  Looking forward to hearing students' beliefs and reasons on many topics!

Wonder Fun

Wonder Fun on our Early Release Day....

Thank you everyone for helping to make it possible to see Wonder altogether last Friday.  It was such a fun night and will be a lasting memory for sure!!  Below is a picture we took today after each creating our own Wonder image.

Fluency Tutor

Students were introduced to the Fluency Tutor, an extension of Google, which allows them to make a recording of themselves reading a leveled passage.  They will do this once or twice a month as a way of increasing their oral reading fluency skills.  Please be sure your child has headphones here at school for use with Chromebook activities and assessments - thank you!

DASH in Classrooms

Thank you to all DASH volunteers!  Parents recently facilitated DASH sessions in fourth grade classrooms as students increased their awareness of invisible differences and the "many kinds of smarts" each of us may have.  We enjoyed the activities in class and loved hearing first-hand from a Masco student who shared his personal life experience and struggles in school due to his own invisible difference.

Science Hands-On Investigations

Students first investigated how the speed of moving water affects how fast soil erodes and then worked together to set up a controlled investigation.  They formed hypotheses and conducted an investigation to learn how the steepness of a slope affects the downhill movement of soil.

This was messy, but fun!!

Labs in Action

Students are having a blast with hands-on labs and investigations.  They are learning the importance of working together and accepting ideas that may differ from their own.

Here are some pictures from our beginning of the year Swingers lab and our recent investigation from our new science program.  Students were exploring what happens during an earthquake.

This week, students read each other's "trouble stories" and jotted compliments and suggestions for improvement.  They are learning to give and receive feedback in a meaningful way.  Students reviewed notes left by peers and made decisions on how to expand their ideas and improve their writing.
